Technical difficulties: Precondition Failed

So, the truth is I have not been too busy to write. Honestly I think letting myself go a day or two without writing got me out of the groove. I suddenly started thinking about what people would think about what I was writing, and if I was really a good enough writer to be doing this regularly.
I think I’m over it now.

But, excuse number to is this thing called Precondition Failed. Each time I mustered up the confidence to write I’d try to login and my own blog wouldn’t let me on cause it thought I was a robot (computer running through sites just to spam). I still can’t figure out why it did that.

Anyways, I was wondering if this happened to any of my regular readers as well? If so I’ll be sure to look into it. If not I’ll just go on about my business and start posting regularly again like I should have been all along.

Overflowmag.com borrows the Trying to Follow Hotline

UPDATE: I closed down Overflowmag.com, I’m simply to far removed from the college scene to be able to really make a connection there. If your looking for an interesting related project, check out CCCUWatch.org sometime.

For at least the next few days the Trying to Follow Hotline will be used at Overflowmag.com for folks to phone in their thoughts on the Soulforce activities at Wheaton College.
I’m not sure how successful it will be, but hopefully it is a useful tool.

If your interested in calling in with your thoughts please do at the hotline number:

Images to challenge and inspire for Earth Day

Earth Day is tomorrow and I don’t think enough people know or care about it. So I thought I’d drop a few pictures in that might inspire you a little.

(March 6) Greenpeace protests against bigger deforestation of the last years in the region of Santarém.

In a remote area of the forest, 120 km of Santarém, in Pará, inhabitants of communities in the region and Greenpeace had protested today against the deforestation. The group of 50 people travelled about 5 hours in precarious conditions arriving at an area of 1.650 hectares
totally devastated. There, the group opened a banner of 2.500 square meters with the message “100% Crime” and planted some trees. In accordance with the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural resources, this is the biggest deforestation of the region in last the seven years.  (via. Houtlust)

Looking forward to this week…

Again, a rather un-profound post.
It looks to be another busy week ahead, so I want to prepare you for the disappointment and heartache you might feel from not hearing more from me as far as thoughtful commentary on life goes.

Here’s some of the short, but hopefully interesting post you can be expecting this week:

  • Notes on the book To Own a Dragon and/or Colossians Remixed
  • Notes on applying GTD (getting things done) to my work and life
  • Notes on how to be a better teacher and motivator
  • sweet advertisements I’ve seen recently
  • commentary on life

That’s about all from these parts.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses.

(You know when you write “excuses” three times it starts to look funny)

I write to give you three very good excuses as to why you have been left bored this week with mostly postings of research info and not much of my own personal thoughts this week.

  1. I recently switched positions at my work, but that has meant doing my old job and my new one both during this week (and likely next week). It’s caused some very long days, but I’ve enjoyed them a lot. My mind hasn’t been able to wander to other things so I haven’t had much to write about, nor the energy to do so.
  2. As I’ve mentioned, Soulforce’s visit to Wheaton College is coming up next weekend. I’ve been posting alumni stories as I’ve gathered them and posted them at Overflowmag.com. It’s been a very exciting project and it’s gotten a LOT of traffic, and hopefully some more will come before the events next weekend.
  3. This one is obvious:
    mindy

I hope you can understand. I’ll post some more this week if there is time. I might just start posting some old writings I’ve dug up recently. We’ll see.

We have a Winner!

Congratulations to José O. Vilanova!

José O. Vilanova

José was the first (and thus far only) caller to the Trying to Follow hotline. He’s won a free t-shirt from http://iamnotashamed.net which he’ll be able to sport shortly.

I’d love to hear from more subscribers and readers if you feel like calling in with a comment or just to say hello.

“Race Card” an intro to “Black. White.”

I’m going to blog about the recent TV series “Black. White.”

It was on FX recently and I saw the show and wanted to encourage others to see it when they get a chance. For now I don’t have time to write much but thought you’d enjoy the intro music video by Ice Cube.

Did you get your race card?
I didn’t get my race card
Did you get your race card?
Hell no, I didn’t get my race card!
Did you get your race card?
Homeboy, where’d you get your race card?
Did you get your race card?
White boy, what is a race card?

Please don’t believe the hype
Everything in the world ain’t black and white
Everybody ain’t a stereotype
Just because I look wrong, I’m about to do right
Please don’t believe the hype
Everything in the world ain’t black and white
Everybody ain’t a stereotype
Just because I look wrong, I’m about to do right

Black as midnight, or bright as Snow White
You’d better do me right, or I’ma have to take flight
Put you on ice, blast on you twice
If you’re a zebra, better come out them stripes
Just because I’m dressed like I’m straight out of jail
Make more money then them white boys at Yale
And got more sense than your fucking President
That college graduate? He can’t pay his rent
But don’t call me brother, man
Unless your ass got my money in your other hand
Pull that black man shit, that white man shit
But see a suit and tie, and I’ll still get your ass euthanized
Cuz I never got my race card in the mail
Is that the reason why my life still hard as Hell?
I’ve been to jail, just like Martha Stewart
And we both told the judge that we didn’t do it

Did you get your race card?
Hell, no, I didn’t get my race card!
Did you get your race card?
Everybody, show me your race card!
Did you get your race card?
Yo, what the hell is race card?
Did you get your race card?
Can anybody tell me what is a race card?

Please don’t believe the hype
Everything in the world ain’t black and white
Everybody ain’t a stereotype
Just because I look wrong, I’m about to do right
