Weekend Updating: Fixing Things Up

A quick update on Trying to Follow and other projects around the blogosphere. First of all, I’m going to try and clean things up on here so that I can send my computer in to get fixed tomorrow. The CD drive isn’t working, but the warranty should cover anything that needs to be done.

I’m really hoping the little eikonproject.org marketing project takes off. I’d love to see some grassroots action on this, it just seems like a fun opportunity. Virgil, a friend over at Planet Preterist, posted about it and has sent quite a few visitors this way. We’ll see what happens.

Another project I was starting on was Fair Consumers. I wanted a site that has all the resources, stories, shopping centers, etc. that folks can go to, to find fair trade items and information. Fair Consumers is up and running, so if you want to log-in and add stories or anything else feel free to. It’s a work in progress, and I might not keep it up, but I’d love to hear others thoughts on it.

I also made yogurt the other day. Thanks to a recipe from Beth.

In addition I’ve been fixing up the site to have more interaction and user friendly elements. I’m hoping more reader’s then just Zach stop by and rate the posts. You can give each post up to a three star rating, either on individual posts or from the front page. So if your willing, make an effort to stop by the front page once a week and vote on the quality of that weeks posts. This will help new readers find the worthwhile articles.

I also added an email and print buttons to make it convenient to share what you find here at Trying to Follow.

Quick, Ariah, Say something Important!

I’ve made a few changes to Trying to Follow, as you can see. The new layout seems to be working well. Hopefully you like it (tell me if you don’t). I also haven’t been posting as much, my way of recognizing that you probably don’t have all the time in the world to read my writings.

I also fixed up my feed/subscription set up and consolidated things. To my shock I found that about 83 people are subscribed to my blog. That means by email, feed readers, etc. about 80 people check up on what I’m writing and posting each day. That doesn’t include the countless others that stumble across my site on a search for images on “tagging” (by far my most popular search referral). The numbers are quite overwhelming.

As far as podcasting goes, I’ve also made a change. In the constant struggle to find time and a consistent co-host for any sort of regularly scheduled broadcasting. Instead, I’ve started to do my own short little daily podcast, which I usually do by phone (sorry about the sound quality):
A Few Minutes with Ariah

I’ll still post a seperate podcast for Trying to Follow when I have longer more in depth audio with co-host and other folks. But for now, if you want to hear some daily thoughts with me, just subscribe to the one above. No more then ten minutes a day normally.

I also found from the little design survey (view results) that people search this site in all sorts of different ways. So, I’m trying to clean up my categories and tags to make browsing easier for you.

That’s about it for the update here. I haven’t had as much time to punch on the keys, but I have been doing the podcasting a bit, so here is the latest:

Antsy update, Tagging, and finding noteworthy

I got antsy again and updated my blog layout. It looks mostly the same and I hope you enjoy that, but I had to update to the new K2 just cause I could.
I spent the last half hour updating the tags on my previous post, starting at number one and making it to number 61. I had to take a break there and I’ll do more another weekend. Hopefully it will make your browsing of the Tag Cloud below more enjoyable. At some point I’ll also try and condense the tags a bit also.

As I was doing the tagging I noticed a number of post I had written that had solicited a number of comments. Two series that got a lot of comments where: Consider Church and Thoughts on War. I’d recommend you read through some of those post and the comments because the comments are very insightful. Starting this week I’ll do my best to read through a couple of those post and comments and then try to respond to them. Let me know which ones your interested in.

I might change the layout of this page at some point, I hope my readers don’t mind, I’m sort of nutso like that.
