YouTubesday: Art, Ideas and Warming

I hope you all don’t mind that my Youtubesdays haven’t had much of a theme. I’ve just been finding, via different blogs, a lot of random videos I’ve found quite interesting and thought you would enjoy. I’ll try to give a brief enough description for you to not have to waste your time watching something, but these are all pretty good…

Fat Pet (:30)

Fantastic Art video. I wish someone would come and do this to my room (ht. Wooster). (4:50)

Movie Trailer, The End of The World. Coming Soon (ht. osocio) (1:00)

Time Banks are a brilliant Idea. (1:00)

Jonny Baker on Tech and the Emerging Church (ht. Gavin). This is 6 minutes long but I thought his points about the way church tends to be is really interesting. He suggests the alternative: Community is the Content.

YouTubesday: A Collection of Shorts

Again, no set cohesive theme, but I had a lot of short snippets I thought I’d share, that you might find interesting. I’ll try and give a brief description of each. (the numbers in parenthesis are about how long each clip is. i.e. 1:00 is one minute)

“Kill’em with Kindness”, a short photo montage with some sermon words about in the background (3:45) (ht Gavin)

The Year of Living Biblically- a short video about AJ Jacobs who tried to live following all the rules of the Bible for a year (3:24)

Interesting PSA (Public Service Announcement) about discrimination (1:00)

This guy shop-drops his book and it becomes a success! (1:00)

A funny thought on ‘Church attendance’ (:30)

YouTubesday: The Story of Stuff

Story of StuffI’ve been hearing about this video everywhere, so I’m not even sure who to hat tip. Basically it’s a 20 minute well put together video discussing all the ins and outs of the life cycle of stuff and how we got to be such a consumeristic culture. I think it’s very well done.
Go check out the whole video and website at The Story of Stuff, or watch the video (Teaser or Chapter by Chapter) below.

We Need More Television Like This

Recently, I’ve been watching the DVD of a great television show that was on the air in 1999 and 2000. The show is hilarious and at the same time raises awareness about important issues that you typically don’t hear about in the news or media. The show’s host is a controversial media figure because of his recent works, but I still find a lot of what he’s done extremely creative, important and beneficial to important causes that I care about as well.
One of the things I really like about the show is it’s creative use of the money typically spent paying celebrities and creating expensive sets. It’s a fairly low budget production which uses its finances to do some creative activities and actually help people also.

Anyways, I hope you can reserve previous judgment you might have of the host and watch a few of the clips below. Here’s some examples:

The Ten Commandments Aren’t the Only Bible Verses Are Politicians Try To Follow:

A Wallet Is Not a Gun Campaign

Thank You Women, For Helping Men Rule the World

Continuing Gulf War and $0.60 Gas

Mistreatment or Deportation? What To Choose?
Part 1

Part 2

Bonus: Ever seen a Plant run for political office?

I’d love to know what you guys thinking of the clips.
