Not only are many billboards obnoxious, they are also illegal.

    Well said. There are plenty of laws that will be difficult to change regarding this sort of blight.
    I found it terribly surprising though that we actually have laws in place that aren't being followed regarding billboards.

    Lets not leave out garage sale and lost pet signs – all of which damage property, visually pollute, blight public space, and create an impression of "anything goes" and "no one cares". No one has rights that cancel out the rights of others and no one as above the law – right? "Mini-billboards" of any kind belong on doormats, bulletin board, craigslist, and in a newspaper ad – not littering and degrading our streets and sidewalks.
